Who is responsible
KickGuess is run by an individual fan and developer based in Egypt. For anything about your data, write to hello@kickguess.app.
Summary
You can play without an account, and we collect your name and email address only if you choose to sign in. Your game progress, stats and streak are stored in your own browser. We also back up your progress under a random private key, with a default name like Player#123456, so you don't lose it. A secure cookie reconnects this browser if its storage is cleared.
Data stored in your browser
We use your browser's local storage to remember your games, statistics, name and avatar, so the site works without an account. A copy is backed up to our servers, as explained below. Clearing your browser data removes the copy on your device.
Anonymous game statistics
When you finish a daily game, your score for that day is added to a shared count, so everyone can see how they compare. We store only the game, the day and the score, with no name, account or identifier. Your browser remembers that it has sent the result.
Profiles and levels
We keep the score of each daily game you finish so your level, streak and trophies can be worked out, even if you stay off public lists. If you join in public, tapping your nickname shows your profile: avatar, club and country if you chose them, level, streak, trophies and whether you signed in with Google. Your email is never shown. Removing your nickname or account deletes all of this.
Duels
When you share a result, we store your score for that puzzle behind the link, with your nickname if you have one, for 30 days. Anyone with the link can see the scores of that duel. If you have already turned on notifications on this device, we also keep its push address with the duel, to tell you when a friend has played. Friends who play your link are stored the same way.
Friends leagues
If you join a league, we store the league's name, who is in it and when they joined. Anyone with a league's link can see its name, its members' nicknames and their points for the week. You can leave at any time, and removing your nickname also removes you from your leagues.
Match predictions
If you make predictions, we store each predicted score with your nickname. Nobody else can see your prediction for a match before it starts. Afterwards your nickname and points may appear on the weekly table and in your leagues. Removing your nickname deletes your predictions.
Club and country
If you choose a club or country, we store them with your nickname and add your weekly points to their totals. The fan tables show only totals, not who is behind them. You can change or clear them on the fan tables page, and removing your nickname deletes them.
Sign-in with Google
Signing in is optional. If you do, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture link with our sign-in provider, Supabase, and we use them only to recognise you when you come back. Your email is never shown to other players. We also copy your game results, stats and badges to your account so they appear on all your devices. You can delete your account and all of this on your profile page.
Nicknames and top lists
If you choose a nickname, we store it with your daily scores and when you played, and show the nickname and scores publicly on the top list. Your browser keeps a private key that links you to it. We don't ask for an email. If three players report a nickname, it is hidden. You can remove your nickname and its scores at any time under any top list. You must be 16 or older to choose one.
Advertising
We don't show ads today. If we add them, Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads, including ads based on your visits to this and other websites, and where the law requires it we will ask for your consent first. You can opt out of personalised advertising at https://adssettings.google.com.
Hosting and logs
Our hosting provider may process technical information such as your IP address and approximate country to deliver the site securely and to choose a sensible default language and league selection. We do not use this information to identify you.
Visitor statistics
We count page views with Vercel Web Analytics to learn which pages and games people use. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Visitors are counted with a short-lived anonymous value that is discarded after 24 hours, so we cannot recognise you across days or sites.
Daily reminders
If you turn on the daily reminder, your browser gives us a push address for this device (from Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft), which we store with the time you chose and your language. We use it for that reminder and, if you share a duel with notifications on, to tell you when a friend has played. Turn the reminder off at any time and its address is deleted; addresses that stop working are deleted automatically.
Football data
Fixtures, results and player facts come from openfootball, OpenLigaDB, the Football-Data.org API and Wikidata. They contain facts about players, such as name, club, nationality, position and date of birth, used only to run the games and pages. A player who wants their details removed can write to hello@kickguess.app. The site loads no images from these services.
Backups and your private key
From your first finished game, we keep your progress on our servers under a random private key, with a default name like Player#123456 and no email. This protects it if your browser data is lost. Your profile page shows this key as a recovery code, so keep it private: anyone who has it can use your profile.
Cookies
We set only the cookies the site needs. kg_key is a secure cookie, unreadable by page scripts, that reconnects your browser to your progress, for up to about 400 days. NEXT_LOCALE remembers your language for a year. We use no advertising or tracking cookies today.
Why we may use your data
We use your data because you asked for the feature, such as saving your progress, joining a league or signing in, and because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the site working, fair and secure. Where the law requires your consent, we ask for it, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Who handles your data
We use these providers to run the site: Vercel (hosting, statistics and stored reminder addresses), Supabase (database and sign-in), Google (if you sign in with it), and browser push services (if you turn on notifications). They may process data outside your country, including in the United States. We do not sell your data.
How long we keep it
Your profile, scores and backups stay until you delete them on your profile page. We may remove profiles left unused for a long time. Duels are deleted after 30 days. Anonymous counts contain no personal data and are kept.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, and object to or limit how we use it. You can delete most of it yourself on your profile page, or write to hello@kickguess.app. If you are in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
The site is for general audiences. Choosing a public nickname requires being 16 or older. We don't knowingly ask children for personal details. If you believe a child has given us personal data, write to hello@kickguess.app and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we update this page and its date. For important changes, we will tell you on the site.
